AmeriCorps Family Services Coordinator

This member position will primarily be responsible for the planning, implementing, and follow-up of events held by Habitat Charlotte’s Family Services Staff, as well as assisting the Homebuyer Education Coordinator with class implementation. This AmeriCorps member will work in conjunction with other staff to coordinate the details of the events, gathering supplies, setting up/breaking down the events, as well as recruiting volunteers and staff to oversee certain aspects of the events. The overall goal in this area will be to provide events that are meaningful and educational to Habitat Charlotte families, as well as better accommodate families not available for regularly scheduled classes and thus increasing number of families served.

The member will also serve a role in helping to make meaningful connections between homeowners, staff, volunteers and donors through the hosted events. The member will assist the Critical Home Repair Family Support Coordinator with regularly scheduled events for partner families and provide direct support in the form of third party agencies and resources.

Requirements for this role include:
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet host site’s insurance requirements
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel
• Experience with internet research

AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leader

Building and repairing more homes is an integral part to our contribution to better neighborhoods and communities, increasing the number of families served. These AmeriCorps members will help manage and develop groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families on the build sites, all while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment. The members serving in this role will be part of the AmeriCorps team that will give the necessary boost to significantly increase the number of families our affiliate is able to serve through our Critical Home Repair (CHR), Rehab and New Construction projects. With the assistance of the AmeriCorps members serving in this role, Habitat Charlotte will complete 54 new builds, 85 home repairs and 15 rehabs during the service term. We view the construction crew leaders as integral to our goals of building and repairing more homes and better neighborhoods and communities throughout our service area.

Preferred qualifications are:
• Desire to serve our community and an understanding of service oriented work
• Past history of service or related experience with Habitat for Humanity or other non-profits
• Leadership experience
• Good communication skills
• Ability to adapt to changes in schedules, weather conditions and other circumstances

Volunteer Services Intern

Habitat Charlotte’s Volunteer Services team is seeking an unpaid intern to assist Volunteer Services staff with communication, engagement, recruitment and appreciation activities for volunteers. The intern will develop a process to document house progress and send updates to construction volunteers using photographs, videos, and graphics. In addition, the intern will produce content for the volunteer newsletter and coordinate its production. The intern will prepare for volunteer appreciation event, assist with volunteer recruitment and enter data in Salesforce so volunteers can be thanked promptly. Ideal candidates should be a creative self-starter with a knack for problem-solving. Candidates should have a passion for affordable housing, sustainability or issues related to poverty. Intern should have intermediate skills in Microsoft Outlook and Excel, graphics, photography and video software. The intern should be familiar with databases and have a willingness to learn Salesforce.

The intern may receive college credit if applicable. They will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of different people, to create a portfolio of content, learn volunteer management skills, and have the opportunity to see the inner workings of a leading nonprofit.
