Critical Home Repair (CHR) addresses major safety concerns in homes by making necessary repairs at a subsidized rate, allowing homeowners to remain in their homes and preserving Charlotte’s dwindling affordable housing stock.

CHR does not address
  • Cosmetic repairs or painting
  • Replacing carpeting or flooring (unless for structural reasons)
  • Window replacement (unless current windows are rotted or contain lead)
  • Bathroom renovations or remodels (unless for accessibility issues or as needed following plumbing repairs)

Step 01

Initial Criteria Review

To qualify for Critical Home Repair, the following criteria must be met:

  1. Single-family, detached home
  2. Owner-occupied for at least three (3) years
  3. Home must be located in Charlotte or Pineville
  4. Willingness to partner (completion of Sweat Equity Hours)

Income of homeowner(s) must fall at or below 80% of HUD median income to be approved. Find out where you fall on the HUD median income scale.

Submit Application

Submit your completed application, along with all requested documentation, by the application deadline given to you.

If pre-qualified, you will be notified and required to submit additional documentation as requested.

Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region is extending the bidding period for the critical home repair projects, as advertised in the Herald Citizen from May 22 – June 12, 2020. The new deadline for bids to be submitted to Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region is Monday, June 15, 2020. All bids received will be opened on June 17, 2020 at 3pm at 20310 N. Main Street, Cornelius. This project is funded with federal funding, through a CDBG grant; federal rules and regulations may apply.
