AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with educational awards in exchange for a year or two of community service. AmeriCorps members help meet the nation’s critical needs in areas of public safety, education, human needs and the environment. Read more about the AmeriCorps program.

Each year, AmeriCorps members from across the country join Habitat Charlotte, allowing the organization to accomplish much more than would be possible without these young men and women.

AmeriCorps VISTA Outcomes & Evaluations Coordinator

The project development VISTA position will support the affiliate in strengthening its outcomes and collection reporting and creating systems to improve constituency engagement. In this role, the VISTA member will work with staff members to develop better systems for tracking affiliate data; create more robust survey processes for homeowners, volunteers, and donors; and advance quantitative data on homeowners from a three-year benchmark study.

Primary responsibilities include developing data collection, management, and tracking systems related to homeowner and program participants through client surveys or other tools and outcome measures. This role will also conduct descriptive and predictive analytical work on Habitat Charlotte’s impact on neighborhood demographics, family success, educational achievement and other critical success indicators.

Requirements for this role include:
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet host site’s insurance requirements
• B.A. or B.S. from an accredited college or university with relevant experience in data management- preferably in the real estate, housing, or non-profit fields
• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs; advanced skills with Excel
• Strong project management skills

AmeriCorps Community Outreach Coordinator

Habitat Charlotte is expanding the Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) program, which includes strategic acquisition, community collaboration, block clean-ups and neighborhood outreach and education. This AmeriCorps member will be critical in helping meet these goals through planning, coordination and implementation of projects in partnership with our target communities. This member will learn the NR Quality of Life Framework and how it is used throughout the affiliate and communities that we serve to assist in executing the Community Engagement Strategy Plan when working with communities of new construction projects.

This member will also learn about Habitat Charlotte’s family selection process and Critical Home Repair program. This member will work with Habitat Charlotte’s Marketing and Communications team to help leverage social media to further spread the message of Neighborhood Revitalization.

AmeriCorps Family Services Coordinator

This member position will primarily be responsible for the planning, implementing, and follow-up of events held by Habitat Charlotte’s Family Services Staff, as well as assisting the Homebuyer Education Coordinator with class implementation. This AmeriCorps member will work in conjunction with other staff to coordinate the details of the events, gathering supplies, setting up/breaking down the events, as well as recruiting volunteers and staff to oversee certain aspects of the events. The overall goal in this area will be to provide events that are meaningful and educational to Habitat Charlotte families, as well as better accommodate families not available for regularly scheduled classes and thus increasing number of families served.

The member will also serve a role in helping to make meaningful connections between homeowners, staff, volunteers and donors through the hosted events. The member will assist the Critical Home Repair Family Support Coordinator with regularly scheduled events for partner families and provide direct support in the form of third party agencies and resources.

AmeriCorps Construction Crew Leader

Building and repairing more homes is an integral part to our contribution to better neighborhoods and communities, increasing the number of families served. These AmeriCorps members will help manage and develop groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families on the build sites, all while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment. The members serving in this role will be part of the AmeriCorps team that will give the necessary boost to significantly increase the number of families our affiliate is able to serve through our Critical Home Repair (CHR), Rehab and New Construction projects. With the assistance of the AmeriCorps members serving in this role, Habitat Charlotte will complete 54 new builds, 85 home repairs and 15 rehabs during the service term. We view the construction crew leaders as integral to our goals of building and repairing more homes and better neighborhoods and communities throughout our service area.

Preferred qualifications are:
• Desire to serve our community and an understanding of service oriented work
• Past history of service or related experience with Habitat for Humanity or other non-profits
• Leadership experience
• Good communication skills
• Ability to adapt to changes in schedules, weather conditions and other circumstances
• Construction experience
• Outdoor work environment experience
