AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with educational awards in exchange for a year or two of community service. AmeriCorps members help meet the nation’s critical needs in areas of public safety, education, human needs and the environment. Read more about the AmeriCorps program.

Each year, AmeriCorps members from across the country join Habitat Charlotte Region, allowing the organization to accomplish much more than would be possible without these young men and women.

AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that take different approaches to improve lives and foster civic engagement. More than 250,000 Americans across the country participate in AmeriCorps each year, tackling various community needs in different ways.

Interviews will be in person for those living in Charlotte and surrounding areas, and by phone or online for those living elsewhere. Final acceptance in the program is subject to a background check and official offer protocol with Habitat for Humanity International.

All of our AmeriCorps members serve with us for their 10.5 month term. You can help strengthen communities in the Charlotte region through a year of service. Construction Crew Leaders play an integral part in leading volunteers through construction tasks to help us build and repair more homes.

AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance of approximately $17,000 for their 46.5-week term. This is direct-deposited bi-weekly.

The Segal Education Award of $6,495 following successful completion of service with a lifetime maximum of two awards, health plan benefits, possible student loan forbearance, childcare benefits, and Habitat Charlotte Region also offers furnished apartments to our members during their service term.

In this position no prior construction knowledge is required – we are looking for people who have a drive to serve those in need of affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity’s mission, and we are willing to teach all the necessary construction skills on the job. You will also learn invaluable skills such as project management, leadership, effective communication, problem solving and team building.
