Habitat Charlotte taps Laura Belcher for President/CEO post
Former Arts & Science Council CFO to lead NC’s largest Habitat affiliate
CHARLOTTE, NC (June 10, 2014) – Moving across town from one prominent non-profit organization to lead Habitat Charlotte should be a smooth transition for Laura Belcher.
Over the past 20 years, Belcher has worked on a dozen or so Habitat houses as a volunteer, siding crew chief and even as house leader. A clear understanding of Habitat’s role in the community came early, as she is actively involved in the lay leadership of Covenant Presbyterian Church, one of the seven founding churches that established Habitat Charlotte in 1983.
Belcher joined the Arts & Science Council (ASC) in 2005 and spent most of her tenure as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer overseeing that organization’s finances, human resources, and technology activities. In 2011 she was instrumental in the design and development of power2give.org , a national crowdfunding site for the cultural sector that was launched by ASC in 2011. Having expanded the site into 24 communities across the country, she currently serves as its National Director.
“I am thrilled to join the Habitat Charlotte ministry and team. Working together to build stronger neighborhoods for the benefit of the entire community, and providing hope of home ownership to many is a privilege. The honor of joining an Affiliate of Distinction, one of only 7 in the country, is tremendous, and I look forward to getting started soon,” says Belcher.
Prior to joining ASC, she was the owner and founder of Dimensions Advisory Services, a strategic consultancy for nonprofits and small businesses, focusing on profitability improvement, process redesign and top-line revenue growth. Previously she had worked in financial services as Vice President of Operations for Transamerica Reinsurance, and as Senior Vice President and Director of Investment Consulting Services for Wachovia Securities. A graduate of the College of William and Mary with a degree in Business Administration and Accounting, Belcher began her career with Arthur Andersen in Charlotte, working in audit and consulting services throughout the Carolinas for almost 10 years.
