Overview

Habitat Charlotte continues to be blessed by community partners who answer our annual call to join with us to build homes for local, low-income families. As wage disparities continue to grow and the income gap widens, the demand for affordable housing is greater than it has ever been. 

We are fortunate to have the continued support of Charlotte’s faith community, home building industry, private corporations, civic groups, educational institutions and individuals in bringing innovative projects to our community. Through their support we've been able to create, sustain, and participate in projects that allow us to serve more families each year. 

Celebrating our foundation as a Christian mission, each fall we observe a week of spirituality and compassion in action through our Building on Faith Blitz.

Leveraging the skills, expertise and generosity of Charlotte’s home building industry, each summer we partner with local builders to construct affordable housing at an unprecedented rate during our Home Builders Blitz.

Women working together for a common goal can achieve amazing results. Each year, all-women volunteer crews build and finance a home for a local family as part of our Women Build Project. Habitat Charlotte was the first to do this project in the U.S. in 1991.

In 1993, Habitat Charlotte established a sister affiliate in El Salvador. Since then, we've tithed over 1 million dollars to be used in local construction efforts, and helped build and finance construction on more than 4,000 homes for low-income families in El Salvador.  Charlotte volunteers travel there each year during our El Salvador Work Camp.

More than 100 local churches, civic groups, schools and corporations have partnered with Habitat Charlotte to work side-by-side with new homeowners on the construction of their houses. Through our various House Sponsor Projects, sponsors are able to finance and/or build a house for a hardworking family in our area.

As part of a special partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Habitat Charlotte will work in partnership with local Lutheran congregations and Thrivent Financial members to build at least one home for a local family each year. The project is known as Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity.

Each year, Habitat partners with other groups and organizations to create special projects that will help meet the increasing need for affordable housing in our community.  Join us, and help us guarantee every family the opportunity to live and own a quality, affordable home.
