Since its founding in 1983, Habitat Charlotte has been a national leader and innovator in affordable housing. One of the most successful efforts conceived locally is Women Build. What started as a casual conversation among a small group of Charlotte area women in 1991 has grown into an international movement of women empowering women through affordable housing. To date, over 2,000 homes have been constructed by women crews in the U.S. and 30 foreign countries—and it started right here in Charlotte. In 2016, Habitat Charlotte celebrated the 25th anniversary of Women Build by building five homes for local families in need of affordable housing. The work continues this spring – Women Build 2017 runs from Thursday, May 11 until Saturday, July 8.
