Own a Habitat Charlotte Home

Habitat Charlotte builds affordable homes for low-income families who currently live in inadequate housing. Habitat offers qualified families a “hand up,” not a “handout,” choosing to build with those who demostrate a willingness to partner and the ability to pay.

All applicants are required to provide employer references and allow rental verification and background checks to be processed. Once their application is approved, a family must complete 250 hours of “sweat equity” and also attend classes designed to prepare them for homeownership. Only then do they take ownership of a new home and begin making full and timely payments on their interest-free mortgage.

While we have transformed the lives of over 800 families in the Charlotte area, our community’s need for affordable housing is far too large for any one organization to solve. Individuals from all races, sexes, and creeds are encouraged to apply.
