MuRPHY GOT DIRTY...

AND THE WINNER IS...Habitat Charlotte held its 2nd Annual 'Murphy's Dirty 30' Mud Volleyball Tournament on May 18th, 2008. The event was a huge hit with over 200 people in attendance and more than double the teams than last year! Team 'Vitus'(pictured at left) was victorious, winning a rafting trip for 6 to the US White Water Center. Coming in second was 'Keeping Up With the Joneses,' who won 6 $20 gift certificates to Zada Jane's restaurant.

LIVES CHANGED...All of the 'Murphy's Dirty 30' proceeds are going to support Habitat Charlotte's Home Repair Project, Isaiah 58. The need for essential home repairs has drawn Habitat Charlotte and Love INC of Mecklenburg County into a collaboration. The ministry seeks to serve those who are at or below 50% of what HUD has determined as the Annual Median Income (AMI) for Mecklenburg County. To read more about this project, click here.

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS...This year's tournament was hosted by Habitat Charlotte's newest group, the Habitat Young Professionals of Charlotte (HYPC). The HYPC is a group of dedicated and motivated individuals looking to spend time contributing to the Charlotte community. HYPC members are making a positive impact on our city's families-in-need and want you to join them in helping to eliminate sub-standard housing in Charlotte! Click here to learn more!

Who the heck is Murphy?

'Murphy's Dirty 30 Mud Volleyball Tournament' was the idea of Tim Murphy, manager of the Charlotte ReStore, and a few of his friends. Last year, with his 30th birthday looming, Murphy and his buddies brianstormed ways to celebrate the landmark day. The group decided his "Dirty 30th" birthday party would be even better if they could raise money for Habitat Charlotte at the same time. What better way to celebrate your "Dirty 30" than in a pit full of mud raising funds with your best friends? So, here's the equation: (Murphy's birthday) + (mud, music, food & friends) = Murphy's Dirty 30 Mud Volleyball Tournament! Great fun for a great cause!
