Housing is conveniently located within walking distance of a shopping area that includes fast food restaurants and a grocery store. More shopping centers and restaurants are located within several miles.
About the Apartments
-
The Habitat Charlotte facility is pictured above. The offices are located on the main floor and the apartments are located on the second floor. Our coffee shop is on the corner and the ReStore is also in this building, adjacent to the coffee shop.
-
Residents are expected to treat the property gently and with respect. This enables us to provide this amenity to future members.
-
Housing is available for a very reasonable cost of $120 per month for 2010-2011 year. This is about a quarter of the cost of renting an apartment on the open market.
-
We have four, four-bedroom units and two efficiency units.
-
In the four bedroom units, each person has their own room and shares a kitchen, bathroom, and living room. Depending on capacity, two individuals may share the larger of the efficiency apartments. Individual apartments are single gender, but open up to the same hallway.
-
The rent includes all utilities except long distance phone.
-
Housing is only available for the individual who is a member and not for friends or relatives. Members who choose not to accept the housing provided will receive no other extra living allowance to compensate for higher living costs.
-
There are no pets allowed, with the exception of a small fish tank.
-
Illegal drug use or possession will not be tolerated and will be grounds for immediate eviction in addition to other consequences as laid out in the AmeriCorps Member Contract or Habitat Charlotte Contract.
-
Members, interns and their guests are expected to treat each other with respect at all times.Storage space is limited; please plan to store excess items with family or friends or rent a storage unit.
-
The apartments are fully furnished with the exception of bedding, bedside lighting, and decorations for your room. To personalize your room you can borrow basic items for the year from our ReStore.
-
Most past members have enjoyed living together, despite the occasional conflict. They have often traveled , held group dinners, and thrown parties together.
Common Spaces
-
Residents must keep their own apartments clean and share responsiblity for keeping the

common areas clean. Additionally, residents are responsible for taking recycling to the recycling center.
-
The common area currently has a TV and comfortable seating, several computers with internet access, and a ping pong table. Laundry facilities are in a separate room with four washers and four dryers.
-
A deck off the back of the building is available for members to use as well.
