For the second term in a row, Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte has been recognized as an "Affiliate of Distinction" by Habitat for Humanity International. The distinction, given on a biennial basis, was established in 2013 "to honor those Habitat affiliates that meet or exceed best-practice standards and to uphold their work as best practices."
CEO Laura Belcher said of the honor, "Just as the affiliate did from 2013 through this year, Habitat Charlotte will continue to be a good steward of Habitat International's generous recognition. Our goal remains to be at the forefront of innovation amongst affiliates," she continued, "while simultaneously learning and extracting all we can from the other exceptional affiliates across the country with whom we share a common goal of eliminating poverty housing."
Habitat Charlotte is recognized as one of 14 Affiliates of Distinction for 2015-2017 out of over 1,400 affiliates in the U.S. That's less than one percent of affiliates!
Recipients were reviewed by seven criteria: sustainable and green building; organizational leadership; community development; financial sustainability; alignment with Habitat for Humanity's strategic plan; public communication; and support for Habitat's global mission.
