Habitat Charlotte's Americorps and Intern Housing

We hope this information about our housing is helpful!

  • We provide housing for to increase the enjoyment and satisfaction in being an AmeriCorps member, intern or co-op participant.  We have paid considerable amounts to acquiphotore, maintain and outfit the apartments.  We want them to be pleasant and affordable places for members to live.   If you were looking for an apartment on the open market the costs would easily by 4 times as much.   We expect members to treat the property gently and as some place that has value.  This helps us be able to provide this amenity to future members.
  • We have 4 - 4 bedroom units and tw efficiencies.  The housing is above our office and in the same building as our 2nd Re-Store and our coffee shop.
  • We are with-in easy walking distance of a shopping area that includes fast food restaurants, a grocery store and other small shops.   With-in several miles are both upscale and neighborhood business areas with many restaurants and shops.
  • Housing is available for the year long AmeriCorps members and full-time interns/co-ops at a very reasonable monthly cost - $110 per month for 2006-2007
  • The rent includes all utilities except long distance phone.  Members are responsible for taking recycling to the recycling center on a rotating basis.
  • Housing is only available for the individual who is a member and not for friends or relatives.  Members who chose not to accept our offer of low cost housing receive no other extra living allowance to compensate for higher living costs.
  • No pets allowed, well you can have a fish.  But we're not going to change our mind so don't even ask to have a dog, cat, ferret, snake or any other animal.
  • Illegal drug use or possession will not be tolerated and will be grounds for immediate eviction in addition to other consequences as laid out in the AmeriCorps Member Contract or Habitat Charlotte Contract.
  • Members, interns and their guests are expected to treat each other with respect at all times.
  • We expect, at this point, that each person will have their own room; however, bathrooms, kitchens, laundry facilities and common areas are shared.    In addition, to keeping their own apartments clean, members share responsiblity for keeping the common areas clean.
  • The common area currently has a TV and comfortable seating, several computers with internet access, a ping pong table.   Laundry facilities are in a separate room with four washers and four dryers.
  • The apartments are fully furnished with the exception of bedding and decorations for your room.
  • Most members have really enjoyed living together in this group situation.  They have often traveled together, had group dinners together, had parties together, sometimes got on each other's nerves but generally enjoyed having a new group of friends.    It can be rather like acquiring a whole new group of siblings.
