Meet Mr. Howard

If you think your donation won't make a difference, meet Mr. Howard. His house was on the chopping block. But thanks to the Habitat Critical Home Repair program and Lowe's, Mr. Howard can now live safe and dry in his home.

Habitat Charlotte is not immune to the region’s economic woes. However, we are taking advantage of a unique opportunity this environment has created. Habitat Charlotte has strategically decided to purchase several vacant, foreclosed homes.

Building on Faith

Building on Faith

bof09_webEach fall since 1995, Habitat Charlotte has paid homage to its spiritual roots through our annual Building on Faith Blitz. This project is our signature blitz build project, celebrating our special connection to Charlotte's faith community. Faith groups, corporations and civic groups partner with Habitat Charlotte during a week-long "blitz" constructing new homes, completing Critical Home Repair projects and rehabbing vacant, foreclosed homes as part of our Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.

El Salvador

El Salvador

el-sal_webSince 1993, for every house built in Charlotte, Habitat Charlotte has contributed the equivalent construction cost of one home to its sister affiliate in El Salvador. In addition to financial support, Habitat Charlotte organizes ten day work trips to El Salvador several times a year. Each house built there enables a family to move out of mud, cardboard or tin shanties and into a decent, affordable home.

Olympic High School

olympichs_webOlympic Community of Schools hosted a dedication in March 2009 for  new Habitat Charlotte homeowner Anna Lazano.  The home was constructed on the Olympic High School campus during the 2008-09 school year. The build began with a platform and wall-framing during the school year, while community volunteers chipped in lending financial support and investing more than 1,400 hours of labor. Students also participated in fundraising to help with the cost of construction.
